A Buderim man, 37, has faced court after a “wild night” during which he allegedly rammed two cars and tried to light a man on fire.

Outside court, Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Mansfield said the accused, later named as Callan Robert Ransom in Maroochydore Magistrates Court, was arrested following the incidents at Buderim on January 15.

A man, 35, had arrived in his car at a Kings St unit complex on Saturday when police will allege he was targeted by Mr Ransom.

Mr Ransom allegedly rammed the man’s car from behind as he tried to drive away.

The man stepped out of his vehicle and was then approached by Mr Ransom who allegedly doused his face and upper body with accelerant, before trying to light him on fire with a lighter several times.

Senior Sergeant Craig Mansfield described the alleged incident as “madness”.

The complainant in the dousing charges was helping a woman, 22, and a man, 38, move out of the unit complex.

Police will also allege that earlier the same day, that couple was attacked by Mr Ransom and a 27-year-old woman known to him.

At 12:30pm when the pair were leaving the property the woman, 27, walked out of a unit complex and threw a plate at their vehicle, police claim.

The pair immediately drove away while Mr Ransom allegedly pursued them in a car, driving on the wrong side of the road and through a red light in order to catch up with them.

Police allege Mr Ransom rammed their car four to five times during the pursuit.

The 27-year-old woman later allegedly stole a car and drove it a short distance away before dumping the vehicle.

Police took the woman into custody after she was located hiding in a bin and charged her with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and wilful damage.

She is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on March 3.

Detectives later found Mr Ransom on River Esplanade in Mooloolaba on Wednesday, January 19.

He was charged with one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, dangerous operation of a vehicle, endangering the safety of a person in a vehicle with intent, wilful damage, driving with a disqualified licence and three counts of breach of bail.

Mr Ransom’s appearance was excused in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Thursday morning where duty lawyer Leisel Rogan asked for his matters to be adjourned.

In court, magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist described the alleged incident as a “wild night”.

He adjourned the matters for a committal mention on March 4.

Mr Ransom did not apply for bail.
