New data shows vaccination breakdown of Covid-19 deaths across the state

More than 1000 Queenslanders have tragically died from Covid - most in the past six months during the Omicron wave. Now, new data reveals the rate of death between vaxxed and unvaxxed.

A quarter of Queenslanders who died from Covid-19 were unvaccinated, despite almost 94 per cent of the state having at least one dose of the vaccine.

New data from Queensland Health revealed that from the 1034 deaths during the pandemic to May 27, 268 were unvaccinated while 400 were fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, 286 of the deaths were those who had received their booster, and 73 were partially vaccinated with just one dose.

However, given the high vaccination rates in the state, a Queensland Health spokesman said the death rate in real terms is much higher for those who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

The deaths of those who are fully vaccinated, or also received the booster, comes from a population of more than 4.8 million people, with 92.36 per cent of the state fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the number of unvaccinated deaths comes from a much smaller population of just over seven per cent of the total Queensland population, or around 367,000.

A quarter of Queenslanders who died from Covid were unvaccinated.

It’s unknown which strains have been the deadliest around the state with Queensland Health’s genome sequencing not being used on every case or death of Covid-19, according to a spokeswoman.

However, all except seven of Queensland’s Covid-19 deaths have occurred during the Omicron wave in 2022.
