The chairman of a Brisbane leagues club believes they are doing something “every other club would dream of” as they unveil the next stage of a mega $16 million redevelopment including extravagant new features such as a rooftop bar and bowling alleys.
Carina Leagues Club recently launched the first phase of the project after opening a 200-set function centre, a new restaurant and bar as well as part of a new gaming area, which will fit 300 pokie machines when final works are completed later this month.
Construction will start on phase two of the club’s revamp in just weeks time and is scheduled to be finished next year.
The next stage of the project will be headlined by a terrace rooftop bar with views of the Brisbane CBD skyline, mini golf and putt putt courses alongside the rugby league fields as well as an expansive playground for children featuring four bowling alleys.
Other features included will be a large deck extension for the existing Hive Cafe, a new dining option with an Asian fusion menu called Hive by Night as well as three children’s party rooms.
Longstanding Carina Leagues Club chairman, Wade Core, who the new function centre is named after, said the works were the next step in making the venue a “destination for everyone”.
“We want to be a venue where everyone can come and have a good time, that’s probably something that hasn’t necessarily been associated with leagues clubs in the past,” he said.
“I think we’re leading the way with the things we are doing here and there’s plenty more to come.
“We’re doing things no other places are doing, not even the new (Star) casino and things that every other club would dream of.”
Carina Leagues Club general manager Adam Wiencke said the added features of the revamp would mean the venue could bring in around 50 more staff to expand their workforce from 170 employees to around 220.
Mr Wiencke, who previously oversaw the rebuild of the Goodna Services Club after the floods as their general manager before moving to Carina in August last year, said the redevelopment was like no project he had seen before.
Carina Leagues Club was named Club of the Year at the 2024 Clubs Queensland Awards for Excellence in March.
