Community members in northern Brisbane suburbs have backed a group of university students who were sent a “nasty” letter by a disgruntled neighbour who told the residents they would start a petition to remove them if the noise didn’t stop.
A post in the Wilston, Windsor, Grange and Newmarket Community Group showed an image of a letter that was sent to a group of university students who had recently moved into a nearby house.
The letter was written in all caps and told the residents that “enough is enough”.
“All your neighbours have had enough of your extremely loud noise that goes on every night,” the letter said.
“If this persists we will call the police, the council and write a petition to your real estate agent to have you evicted.
“Your parties are also way too loud. Please have some respect for other people that need peace and quiet.”
One of the residents who received the letter took to the local community page to apologise and explain the situation.
“Hi neighbours, so we just opened this letter and we are really sorry we’ve caused so much commotion. This is our first ever house we’ve rented as uni students so we were very excited,” the poster wrote.
She said in the three months they had lived there they’d only had two parties and two band rehearsals, which she agreed to stop since they were disruptive.
“But we really would’ve appreciate someone come (sic) and said something to us in person and not send a nasty letter like this it’s not very nice to receive as a first time renting experience, especially when it is being claimed we are making noise every second night.…. It’s been 3/4 occasions in 3 months.
“If you have an issue please contact us personally or speak to us in person thank you,” the post said.
She also mentioned the housemates had sent out letters before each party and no one had contacted them but rather had called the police before 10pm to make a complaint.
Community members from the surrounding suburbs took to the comments to back the university students with one person saying whoever sent the letter was a “party pooper”.
“Sooks. Play on,” one commenter said.
“Some people have too much time on their hands unfortunately,” another commented.
“This person sucks. I hope your band practices go well!! Keep at it!!” another wrote.
