A tourist at a popular Whitsundays resort has told of the horrifying moment she heard a man scream “help me” after he reportedly fell 3m from an infinity edge pool.

Emergency crews were called to Water’s Edge Resort along Golden Orchid Dr in Airlie Beach shortly after 7.30am where it is understood the man fell to the ground and cracked open his head.

A Queensland Ambulance Service said paramedics had taken a man aged in his 20s to Proserpine Hospital with serious head injuries.

Burrum Heads resident Suzy, who did not want her last name published, was on her balcony in a room that directly overlooked the pool area when she saw three men believed to be in their late 20s sitting around the water.

“I told them ‘be careful boys’ because it was slippery,” she said.

Suzy said some of the men then went into the water while one sat at the edge of the infinity pool, which was the upper pool out of the resort’s two pools.

“A second later you hear screaming,” she said.

“It happened in a second.

“All I remember hearing from him was, ‘help me’”.

Suzy said she also recalled hearing other men screaming “we need an ambulance” before she went to the resort’s common area to inform one of the men’s girlfriends what had happened.

“Only maintenance was here and they were a great help,” she said, adding they were the ones who directed police officers and paramedics to the scene.

Guests and witnesses at the resort were seen crying and holding each other for support as police officers took photographs around the lower pool.

A mum, who was staying at the resort with her partner and their three kids, said it was a “terrible” incident as they watched paramedics transfer the victim on a stretcher.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the matter was in the hands of Workplace Health and Safety.

Water’s Edge Resort declined to comment.

More to come.
