Vaey Montanna-Freya Varmora to be assessed by psychiatrist

The case against a Qld driver who allegedly tried to run down a man and later stalked him, has returned to court.

Vaey Montanna-Freya Varmora is charged with attempted murder over an alleged road rage incident at South Mackay.

The case against a woman who police allege tried to run a man down on a Mackay street has been delayed while she’s psychologically assessed.

East Mackay woman Vaey Montanna-Freya Varmora, 27, is facing a raft of charges including attempted murder and threatening violence following an alleged road rage incident in January.

Ms Varmora has since been charged with one count of unlawfully stalk, intimidate or harass between March 31 and April 30 2025, with police alleging she stalked the man she tried to run over.

On May 9 she applied for bail in the Mackay Magistrates Court, with Magistrate Damien Dwyer refusing her application.

Mr Dwyer said at the time there was strong evidence against her in relation to this latest offending.

“Not only that, the incidents occurred at places where you must have been actively looking for his whereabouts,” Mr Dwyer said.

Ms Varmora was remanded into custody until July.

On July 11 defence solicitor Robert Beamish asked Acting Magistrate Patricia Kirkman-Scroope for time to have Ms Varmora assessed psychologically.

“We just this week received that grant of aid to have her assessed,” Mr Beamish said.
He also told the court they had reached out to a number of practitioners and psychiatrists.

The case was adjourned until early September and Ms Varmora was remanded into custody.
