A Queensland woman has been charged with attempted murder following a road rage incident in which police allege she drove her car into a man before losing control and hitting a tree.
East Mackay woman Vaey Montanna-Freya Varmora, 27, faced the Mackay Magistrates Court on Monday morning, charged with attempted murder and threatening violence.
Detective Inspector Emma Novosel said police will allege the incident occurred at 5.15pm at Goldsmith St, East Mackay, on Sunday January 5, sparked by an incident at a roundabout where a driver was cut off.

“This altercation resulted in a minor traffic crash which escalated quickly, with one driver threatening the other driver and their passenger with violence before driving her vehicle into the other vehicle at speed,” Detective Inspector Novosel said.

“The same driver has then driven directly at the driver of the second vehicle, who was out of his vehicle before colliding with him, losing control of her vehicle and hitting a nearby tree.

“Numerous people on scene when the incident first transpired have taken footage on mobile phones, so we have CCTV and footage of the incident.”

She said the alleged victim, a 31-year-old man has been transported to the Mackay Base Hospital for treatment for a leg injury, and his female passenger, 27, was uninjured.

Detective Inspector Novosel said police have no indications any of them knew each other, while Ms Varmora was known to police.
Breath testing of both drivers at the scene did not bring up anything, and both have had blood samples taken and sent for analysis, she said.

“Holding a drivers licence and driving on our roads is a privilege,” Detective Inspector Novosel said.

“Road rage incidents can pose serious dangers to everyone involved, including the drivers of vehicles, passengers, or pedestrians.”
Ms Varmora’s matters were adjourned to a later date.
