World War One medals and Australian memorabilia coins were among the items stolen during a business break-in in the Mackay CBD.

A River St business was the target of the theft at about 2.20am on January 12.

Mackay Crime Prevention Unit Senior Constable Steve Smith said entry had been gained via a rear door.

“Once inside, the thief searched throughout and a variety of items were stolen, including two World War One Italian war medals … a collection of Australian pennies and 50 cent coins (octagonal and round) and cash,” Sen-Const Smith said.

The thief then left the same way.

“Anyone who may have information about the matter is encouraged to contact police as soon as possible,” Sen-Const Smith said.
