Two men have been taken to hospital after their cars collided on a Mackay residential street.

Two men have been taken to hospital after their cars collided on a residential Mackay street.

Paramedics were called to the corner of Evan and Harvison St in East Mackay about 1pm to reports of a two-car crash.

The two cars reportedly collided before one of them hit a pole.

Both drivers were taken to the Mackay Base Hospital.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said a man in his 50s was trapped in his car and suffered neck and chest injuries.

He was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition.

A man in his late teens suffered minor shoulder injuries and was also taken to hospital for further assessment.

Nearby residents reported hearing a loud bang, with one neighbour describing hearing the crash as “an unholy sound”.

Senior Sergeant Carl Butcher said it was too early to tell the cause of the crash.

The intersection between both streets was closed in all directions for a time, with traffic resuming by 2pm.
