It was a monster week for the batters in the Mackay Cricket Association’s fifth round of first grade cricket.

Find out which players made the cut in a jaw-dropping week.

1. Darryn Dyer (Pioneer Valley) - 156 (76)

Where else could we start with apart from one of the most amazing stat lines you’ll see in cricket at any level, as Dyer notched up 150-plus at better than a run-a-ball, with 28 boundaries to his name (12 sixes).

It’s Dyer’s new top score for the season, besting the 144 not out he made in the Mackay T20 Smash, and his fourth century of the 2024/25 summer of cricket.

2. Cody Filewood (Pioneer Valley) - 102* (91), 3/37 (6.5 overs)

While he technically came in at number three, it would’ve felt wrong not to put Filewood up there next to the batting partner he put on 189 runs with.

With another three wickets to his name, the pair would’ve had a fight on their hands for man of the match honours.

3. Cameron Keene (Souths) - 130* (108)

It’s rare that a match-winning 130 not out doesn’t get you top billing in a team of the week, but nonetheless Keene put together what will go down as one of the best performances of the season in his side’s victory over Walkerston.

4. Peter Shepherd (Norths) - 66 (87)

In what was a tough day out for the Norths crew, Shepherd stood tall during their run chase, with a valiant knock as they chased a record-breaking total.

5. Luke Jackson (Walkerston) - 89* (66)

Walkerston weren’t able to defend a strong total on Saturday, but it was another exceptional middle-order performance from Luke Jackson that ensured they were in the hunt to begin with.

6. Mahesh Rajaratne (Pioneer Valley) - 61* (35)

How often is an unbeaten 61 in quick time the clear-cut third best performance for your own team in a match? Nonetheless Rajaratne makes yet another appearance on our weekly list.

7. Jaxn Sign (Magpies) - 55 (49)

Pushed down the order in our team of the week, Sign’s half-century at better than a run-a-ball was vital to Magpies ultimately seeing themselves to a comfortable victory.

8. Isaac Borg (Magpies) - 3/15 (8 overs)

Magpies skipper Borg led the charge as his side held Brothers to a sub-par 9-123, with his damaging off-spinners producing three wickets at less than two runs an over.

9. Matthew Wicks (Brothers) - 3/30 (9 overs)

Wicks toiled away for Brothers as they tried to defend a meagre total, and while he was unsuccessful, he deservingly takes a spot in our best of the week.

10. Joel Bruun (Pioneer Valley) - 3/24 (8 overs)

PV’s key bowler picked up wickets and was economical while defending his side’s monster total.

11. Rocklyn Miller (Souths) - 2/18 (5 overs)

It was tough to pick a best bowler from Souths in what was a strong team performance, but the honours go to Miller for his pair of wickets with minimal runs leaked.
