Check out the 11 players who made the cut in the Mackay Cricket Association’s round 2 team of the week:

1. Etienne T Pretorius (Walkerston) - 144 (103)

Pretorius was able to score the first hundred of the MCA’s first grade season for 2024-25, notching up a monster score of 144 which included 22 boundaries (nine sixes).

2. Chris Day (Norths) - 65 (52)

Day put together a critical performance at the top of the order which set-up Norths to chase down a target of 249.

3. Jack Law (Brothers) - 94 (91)

Law added to what has already been a brilliant 24-25 campaign thus far, falling agonisingly short of a first grade hundred after tonning up in second grade last week.

4. Cameron Tomerini (Brothers) - 90* (88), 2-39 (8 overs)

Tomerini and Law combined for a monster 130-run partnership, with Tomerini also scoring at better than a run a ball before going on to pick up two wickets, a run out and a catch.

5. Jaxn Sign (Magpies) - 75* (35), 1-16 (6 overs)

Sign produced an extraordinary knock down the order for the Magpies to lift them over the line, scoring at more than two runs a ball as they chased their 122-run target in less than 15 overs. He also got involved with the ball, with tidy figures and a wicket from his six overs.

6. Kerrod Tortora (Norths) - 44* (41), 1-49 (8 overs)

Was slightly expensive despite picking up a wicket with the ball, but more than made up for it with a match-winning unbeaten 44.

7. Aaron Shield (Souths) - 30

In what was a tough day out for the Sharks, Shield stood tall with his 30 down the order to get them past the 100-run mark.

8. Andrew Borg (Magpies) - 5-10 (6.1 overs)

Borg was in the conversation for the best bowling performance of the week, conceding less than two runs an over on his way to a five-wicket haul as Souths’ batting order collapsed.

9. Conor Bryant (Magpies) - 2-23 (7 overs)

Another tidy performance from Bryant which saw him pick up a pair of wickets and concede only just over three runs an over.

10. Adrian Young (Walkerston) - 6-30 (8 overs)

Young picked up the best figures of the competition thus far, ripping through Pioneer Valley’s middle and lower order to finish up with six wickets on the game.

11. Ben Schembri (Pioneer Valley) - 2-27 (6 overs), 18 (30)

Despite competing for an undermanned PV outfit, Schembri put together a strong showing with his 18 runs down the order plus a pair of scalps.
