Learn about the new junior cricket tournament coming to Mackay in 2025

A brand new cricket tournament will pit Mackay’s best under-19 players against each other an exciting new format. Here’s what we know and how you can sign up.

Mackay will be home to a fresh cricket competition in the new year, with the introduction of a 100-ball under-19s franchise tournament coming in late January.

Mackay Cricket Association’s Sports Development and Facilities assistant manager Matt Brown said the tournament is an evolution of the previous MCA100 which had catered towards junior cricketers during the January break.

“With the momentum of the Porters Mitre 10 T20 Smash and Komatsu Ladies T20 Smash, we’re thrilled to offer under-19 players the chance to compete in a dedicated franchise competition,” Brown said.

“The upcoming T100 Smash marks the inaugural six-round franchise format for our under-19 players, bringing it into alignment with our successful men’s and ladies T20 competitions.

“It’s been great to see that almost all under-19 players from the men’s competition have signed up for this event, with only a few absent due to injury.”

Brown said nominations are still open for players to sign up, while the competition is still searching for more coaches and team managers to help facilitate the competition.

The draft will take place on November 28, with the tournament set to begin on January 24 and run through to March 14, with all matches set to be held at Harrup Park.
