Look out: The Mackay women’s cricketers you need to be paying attention to

With a pair of headlining women’s cricket competitions in the rear-vision mirror, let’s take a look at the female players who have been dominating the local cricket scene in Mackay.

With the Komatsu Ladies 8s season just a few days away, let’s take a look at which local cricketers have been tearing it up in recent months.

Elisha Holdsworth

The young gun has produced exceptional performances across all formats she has played in so far, with her recent 52 (39) for Mackay-Whitsunday in the NQCA Open Zone Women’s Championships a particular highlight.

With half-centuries to her name in the T20 Smash and some eye-catching performances for Queensland’s under-15 side, expect Holdsworth to continue to produce at a high level.

Kiana Dunn

Dunn has been producing in all formats with both bat and ball with 349 runs and 23 wickets to her name already this season. Another youngster who has been representing Queensland in under-15s, she’ll be eager to continue showing out for the rest of the summer.

Sina Leis

The Magpies star batter produced a performance for the ages across the women’s Mackay T20 Smash competition, scoring the most runs in the competition with 254 at a blistering average of 63.5, with a top score of 57.

If she continues that sort of form into the 8s season then look out.

Jade Gersch

Another player who has produced at an elite level within the junior ranks, Gersch showcased her talents most effectively with back-to-back scores of 53 and 48 in the T20 Smash.

Tracee Williamson

Williamson has had a season of highs and yet also agonising lows this season, three times reaching the 90s and yet all three times falling short.

Her performances included a stunning 92 off 49 balls for Mackay-Whitsunday, showcasing her talents even against some of the finest cricketers in the land.

Kaitlyn Harris

With 212 runs, four wickets along with four catches and whopping five run outs, Harris has showcased her talents in all facets of the game so far this season.

Matilda Faulkner

A gun with both bat and ball, Faulkner has racked up a stunning 26 wickets at an average of 15.92 - with best figures of 5/10 - to become one of the pre-eminent wicket-takers in Mackay.

With a top score of 79 to her name, Faulkner is more than capable of handling herself with the willow in hand.

Shelly Schulz

A top-tier wicket taker in the T20 competition, Schulz picked up a scalp in all except one match over the course of the seven matches she played.

Melissa Parter

Another player whose exploits in the shortest format have been noteworthy, Parter was part of a small club who scored more than 150 runs at an average of 50 or more. With another six wickets also to her name, Parter was a factor at all times.
