Mackay is set to welcome a touch of glitz and glamour alongside its Women’s Big Bash matches at Harrup Park, with a cocktail fundraiser coming to the region for the first time.

Brisbane Heat’s biggest charity event for Ovarian Cancer Australia, Teal Heels, raises important funds for research and patient support.

Brisbane’s wicket keeper, Dr Georgia Redmayne, worked in oncology wards and palliative care units after graduating from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Medical Studies and Doctor of Medicine.

She said her experience working with ovarian cancer patients gave her perspective on life.

“Having worked in oncology and palliative care units, this cause sits very close to my heart,” she said.

“I have seen first-hand the devastating impact ovarian cancer has on patients and loved ones.”

The fundraiser event will be held in the Hamilton Room at Harrup Park on November 20, with the Heat to play Melbourne Renegades.

Guests receive food and drinks included, chances to win raffle prizes, and access to inspiring guest speakers, with money raised towards ovarian cancer research.

Dr Redmayne said she was excited to bring the event to Mackay for the first time.

“The Brisbane Heat and Ovarian Cancer Australia have together raised an incredible $85,000,” she said.

“By bringing the Teal Heels to Mackay, we hope to raise the bar and spread further awareness throughout the regions for Australia’s most deadly female cancer.

“Mackay is such a vibrant and tight-knit community, we’re so excited to have our very own Teal Heels event up north.”

Tickets are on sale for $155 and can be purchased at Event Brite.
