Saturday marked the first day of rugby league season in Mackay as four of the six cutters outfits took to BB Print Stadium in their first practice matches of the year.

Taking to the field against central Queensland rivals the Capras, each Cutter team came out with a sense of rejuvenation and determination to get their year off to the best start possible.

Starting with the Mens Cyril Connell Challenge side, the boys made light work of their Capra counterparts with blistering speed and ball movement giving them a 20-8 win.

Turning to the Mal Meninga men’s side, the players were slow to get away but worked into a rhythm to run over the top of the Capras with a 20-16 nailbiter.

The Under 19 Harvey Norman Cup women’s side were faced with a battle from start to finish and were unable to break-away from the Capras with a 16-16 draw.

The feature event of the day was the Men’s Host Plus team, who were ambitious to capitalise on a Capras team which suffered at the hands of new NRL affiliate the Redcliffe Dolphins just last week.

Taking a little to get into their stride, the Cutters managed to run over the top of the Capras with a comfortable 24-10 win
