A set of Magpies brothers will spearhead Mackay’s bid to stop Pioneer Valley completing an incredible Dixon Holmes T20 premiership fairytale just two seasons after failing to win a game.

With the benefit of claiming the minor premiership the Valley will eye a title chance only two seasons after it finished at the bottom of the table, unable to register a win for the entire season.

Now, having only lost one game the side will look to capitalise on their near-perfect season with a win over the Magpies who incredibly sat atop the T20 ladder when Valley were at their lowest.

The last time these two sides met was all the way back in December and much like 2022 it is a time the Magpies would much rather leave in the past.

Having kept Mackay to 9-134, opening batsmen Jack Sambell and a returning Mitch English decimated the Magpie‘s bowling line-up to score an unbeaten 77 and 51 respectively, leading the side to a major victory with not a single wicket conceded.

Both sides are armed with more washouts than games since they last faced off.

Pioneer Valley ended the regular season with the highest run rate, runs scored and highest run total in the competition.

The Magpies will look to rely on much of their opening line-up, in particular the efforts of brothers Ben and Adam Zurvas, to dominate much as we saw in their semi-final performance last weekend.

As potent as these batting line-ups are, the efforts of each side with the ball has been just as impressive with the likes of Valley’s Andrew McNichol and Tim Cridland expected to make their presence felt.

For the Magpies, Isaac and Andrew Borg will be one in focus with the ball after a stellar season where they spearheaded their clubs bowling attack.

The first ball is set to be delivered at 6:30pm this Saturday at Great Barrier Reef Arena.
