26-year-old Liam Paro head’s to England for the first time to face Robbie Davis Jnr in Liverpool

With a record of 23-0, the undefeated Liam Paro will put it all on the line when he walks into enemy territory next month to solidify his champion status and take a shot at the world title.

Mackay’s very own Liam Paro is set to lace up the gloves for the first time in 2023 and although it isn’t the world title shot he so deserves it is still a massive step in the right direction.

Currently one of the most credentialed boxers in the nation, Paro established himself last year when the 26-year-old made a meal of the Jeff Fenech-trained Brock Jarvis within the first round in Brisbane last October.

Since then, the southpaw spent some time back home in Mackay before flying to his training base in Las Vegas, where he will remain until early next month before heading to Liverpool, England to face young British star Robbie Davis Jnr on March 11.

Although not the world title fight many expected, Paro didn't mince his words when it came to the upcoming bout.
He admitted these bouts show that if he can’t make it through this challenge, he doesn’t “deserve a shot at the title”.

“I’ve got to keep busy and my back is against the wall with this one,” Paro said.

“I have to get past these kind of things and perform no matter where I am, his backyard or mine, against whoever.”

Paro spent time back home last November before heading off on his training camp, where he now remains with eye on the title fight he said had been on his radar for quite some time.

“We’ve been told since 2019 there’s whispers of a world title shot,” Paro explained.

“Now it’s just talk to me, I’m not believing anything. I’ve learned now that until it’s signed and sealed, there’s just a lot of talk in boxing.”

The fight against Davis Jnr isn't one many would take in Paro’s position, given he is the next in line for a world title bout, however the young Queenslander’s “love” for fighting outweighs any reservation against risking his undefeated record along the way.

“It’s a big risk, but every fight’s a big risk,” Paro said.

“That’s what it’s all about, these are the things that you’ve got to overcome if you want to be on top. Liverpool’s going to be crazy supporting him.”

Before heading into the final intensive training block of his preparation, the always-focused Paro had a message to those supporting him and to everyone ‘tuning in and watching’ from afar.

“Fingers crossed I get a title shot this year,” Paro said.

““I’m just hoping this year, 2023, I get past Robbie Davies Jr. I’m more than ready, I feel, and I’m just going to keep proving it.”
