Speed limit change on Eton-Homebush Road where Sarina mother killed in 2020

The speed limits on the road where a Sarina mother was killed last year have been reviewed, with ‘crash history and road geometry’ taken into account.

The faces of Queensland's shocking road toll

The deadly stretch of road connecting two communities will be safer with a reduced speed limit to come into effect.

A Sarina mother was killed in a horrific two-vehicle crash on Eton-Homebush Road on October 6 last year.

Now the speed limit on the 2.5km section the road to the intersection of Sarina-Homebush Road will be lowered from 100km to 80km from September.

Police requested the Department of Transport and Main Roads review the speed limit, and an investigation determined the speed reduction was warranted.

TMR regional director Dave Gross said the review also involved representatives from Mackay Regional Council.

“The committee considered a range of factors including crash history and road geometry,” Mr Grosse said.

“[They] determined the existing 80km per hour zone should be extended.”
