Less than 12 months after allegations nude photos of a teen girl were taken under duress and then air-dropped to others, students at a Queensland high school have shared footage of themselves masturbating.

A Department of Education spokesman has confirmed they are aware of the footage produced and shared by students at Sarina State High School in early October.

But the spokesman would not comment on how many students were involved in producing the footage or receiving it.

The lewd footage comes just a week after an incident at the school involving “fart bombs”.

Students had reportedly bought the bombs from a nearby service station before releasing them inside the classroom.

“One teacher aide went home to change clothes after the incident and returned to school later in the day,” the DOE spokesman said.

He did not comment on how many students were suspended or expelled over the incident.

“Principals have powers to confiscate illegal and illicit items and can contact police if they believe the item is illegal to possess or threatens the safety or wellbeing of students,” the spokesman said.

“Students involved have been dealt with in accordance with the school’s Student Code of Conduct.

“No further details can be provided due to student privacy issues.”

This publication did contact Sarina State High School for comment on both incidents but was directed to the DOE.

The incidents follow a series of brutal fights at Sarina SHS were caught on camera and distributed online and it was revealed police officers had “barged” into a classroom to confiscate mobiles after a young female student shared a nude photo of herself to a male student.

A Sarina region mother had told this publication the male student had “threatened to kill” the girl’s family if she did not comply.

Her photo was then reportedly air-dropped to “everyone in the school”.

The DOE spokesman said this week there was “no higher priority” than students’ safety and wellbeing “which includes the online environment”.

“Cybersafety is part of the mainstream conversation in schools, with schools regularly training students in the proper use of technology including mobile phones,” he said.

“Parents also have an important role to play in monitoring their children's behaviour on the internet and use of technology outside of school hours.

“To support this, schools actively communicate with parents to warn of the dangers and outline responsibilities associated with technology both at school and at home.”

The spokesman said the department had further resources for parents and students including the cybersafety website as well as the eSafety Commissioner website, “where they can make a complaint about cyber-bullying, image-based abuse and illegal or harmful content”.

He added the department had a dedicated cybersafety team and Sarina SHS, like all Queensland state schools, had to teach the Health and Physical Education curriculum.

“Health and wellbeing education includes relationships and sexuality education which covers a broad range of topics including growth and development, relationships, sexual and reproductive health, identity, inter- and intra-personal skills, and decision-making,” the spokesman said.
