WITH no mechanical knowledge and a 'shit box' car worth less than a grand, two Mackay women are preparing for the adventure of a lifetime.
JoAnn Clout and Jodee White are the only Mackay team registered for the 2019 Shit Box Rally, a fund-raising event for the Cancer Council.
With only 250 teams allowed to participate in the event nationwide, the Mackay women are excited to represent our little slice of paradise.
The 2019 route will start at Perth, go through Uluru and finish in Sydney. The rules are simple; no four-wheel drives or all-wheel drives and the car must be worth less than $1000. At the end of the rally all of the cars will be auctioned for charity and drivers are welcome to buy back their 'shit box'.
Mrs Clout and Ms White are both passionate about raising awareness of the importance of cancer research after being personally affected by skin cancer.
"I went to the doctor to get a freckle checked and it turned out to be cancerous,” Mrs Clout said.
"If I didn't have it checked when I did, it could have been too late.”
The route the rally participants have to take next year includes several dirt tracks and very little bitumen, something that makes Mrs Clout a little nervous.
"I hope the car makes it. I'm worried about getting it over to Perth to start with,” she laughed.
The Mackay women, whose rally team is called 'Not Lost, Just Looking' hope to raise $8000 for the charity.
