A major Mackay sporting club has received the green light to push ahead on expansion plans.
Magpies Sporting Club this week received approval from Mackay Regional Council to almost double its footprint at the 2-10 Sweeney Crt venue in Glenella.
The renovation will take place over three stages and increase the gross floor area from 2386 sqm to 4615 sqm.
Stage 1 will include a new bar and amenities, a new cold room and freezer extension to the Sports Bar, changes to the car park and drop-off areas to include a new porte cochere, and new administration offices.
Stage 2 includes a Sports Bar extension and new deck, dedicated outdoor smoking area, accessible ramp, and landscaping.
And Stage 3 includes enlarging the kid’s room, installing stairs to the Level 1 balcony, building a new covered deck, demolishing a storage shed, and extending the main entrance, cafe and lounge.
The council’s decision notice states Magpies must provide at least 300 car park spaces including six spaces for persons with disabilities as part of the expansion works.
The development is subject to $419,677.20 in infrastructure charges.
