One of Mackay’s largest sporting clubs has submitted plans to expand its gaming lounge, bar and smoking areas.
Mackay Cricket Association, which owns Harrup Park Country Club, lodged a development application to Mackay Regional Council to add an extra 396sqm of gross floor area.
If approved, the expansion will take the total GFA of the club at 89 Juliet St in South Mackay to 3747sqm.
Expansion areas include a new storage room behind the kitchen, a new deck which will connect the existing deck off the function room to the viewing deck off the sports bar, a new dedicated smoking area next to the existing beer garden, and a considerably larger gaming area.
Documents state the “minor extension” will “improve club operations and customer experience” with the external facade designed to blend seamlessly into the existing architecture.
They further state the proposal has replaced the club’s existing approval to build a partial additional storey for offices which is no longer required.
The council has advised MCC that it must pay a $1077 application fee before it will consider the application to be properly made.
