After 21 years in the business a Mackay agent has taken out “the Oscar of real estate” with a whopping sales total of 113 houses for the year.
Re/max Results’ Stacey Arlott was awarded the Real Estate Business Number 1 Dealmaker award for 2021 — a feat she had to pinch herself over.
“It was quite a shock when I got the email saying I had taken out the number one spot for real estate agents in Australia,” Ms Arlott said.
“I thought, ‘Holy heck’ — it was like winning lotto, I had to look twice.
“It’s huge, it’s the Oscar of real estate.”
The mother of two said one of the reasons the award was so prestigious was because it was based on statistics rather than reviews — which is hardly surprising given the agent’s figures for the year.
Despite contending with the uncertainty of Covid-19, Ms Arlott said she believed low interest rates had kept the property market robust.
“I’ve sold 113 houses this year, we haven’t slowed down,” she said.
Ms Arlott said about 90 per cent of her buyers were locals, with the majority looking to tick one critical box — sheds.
“Mackay is a shed town,” Ms Arlott said.
“Locals want sheds, they would pick a shed over a pool any day.”
Ms Arlott said rural properties were also going through the roof.
“If you’ve got rural stock, you’re sitting on a fortune,” she said with a laugh.
While Ms Arlott was proud of the sales she had secured for clients and her feat taking out the Dealmaker award, it was her passion for the community that made her love her job.
“I’m a people person, I love getting to meet so many people in my job and even forming some great friendships from it,” Ms Arlott said.
“Selling homes and finding people a home, it’s very rewarding.
“And there’s nothing better than helping first homeowners.”
