An attempted burglary in the dead of night was foiled when two men’s attempt to flee officers ended in a collision with a marked police car.

Police responded to reports two men had allegedly forced entry into the Ergon Energy facility on Cemetery Rd about 1.20am Tuesday.

The pair allegedly attempted to steal items and load them into a Mitsubishi Triton which had been stolen from Paget earlier.

A police crew arrived at the facility after being alerted to the disturbance.

Police allege the men quickly fled the scene, colliding with a police car before hightailing it towards the hospital along Hume St.

Police later found the vehicle and its occupants at an Alexandra St house in West Mackay.

The 33-year-old Ooralea man and the 28-year-old West Mackay man have been charged offences relating to car theft, drugs and break and enter.

Specifically, they have been charged with one count of entering premises to commit an indictable offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, breach of bail conditions, stealing and possess utensils and pipes as well as two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, three counts of receiving tainted property (copper cable) and four counts of possessing tainted property (copper cable).

The men were due to appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court on Tuesday June 22.
