A domestic violence investigation has led to the seizure of a sem-iautomatic rifle and large-capacity magazines with a man now facing serious charges.
Police searched an address in Walkerston in the Mackay region on June 18 where they allegedly locating semi-automatic rifles and large-capacity magazines with ammunition.
The search followed an investigation into alleged serious domestic violence offences, including stalking and deprivation of liberty.
A 39-year-old man from Walkerston was charged with seven offences, including two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, as well as stalking, deprivation of liberty, not having authority to possess explosives, and possessing utensils.
Acting Inspector Scott Ingram said they were committed to investigating serious crimes associated with domestic and family violence.
“The Mackay Whitsundays District is dedicated to supporting victims of domestic violence and taking firm action against offenders,” he said.
“Everyone has the right to live without fear of domestic and family violence.”
He said the warrant was one example in which police were disrupting the illegal use of firearms.
“Illegal firearms have no place in our community, and we will continue to target offenders and remove dangerous weapons from the streets.”
The man is set to appear in Mackay Magistrates Court on September 8.
