A Slade Point father forced his way into a North Mackay home “belting” the man inside after allegedly hearing distressing information about his daughter.
Mackay Magistrates Court heard Hunter Anthony Willetts went to the North Mackay home on October 29, attempting to break through the back door before forcing his way through the front of the house and assaulting and injuring the man inside.
Willetts’ lawyer Aaron Sellentin explained to the court what prompted his client’s extreme actions, noting that while it did not excuse them, it spoke to Willetts’ character.
“His actions were sparked by information he had received about his daughter, very concerning information,” Mr Sellentin said.
The court heard what Willetts had been told had not been proven.
Magistrate Damien Dwyer rebuffed Willetts telling him “nobody died and made you sheriff.”
“This sort of vigilante behaviour, going to peoples’ houses and belting them, will not be tolerated,” Mr Dwyer said.
“A man’s house is his castle, and he is entitled to be safe in his own home.
Willetts pleaded guilty on January 20 to entering a premises and committing an indictable offence.
Willetts was given a suspended sentence of nine months, operational for 15 months.
