A Mackay serial juvenile criminal is in hospital with burns to his hands and legs after allegedly setting a stolen car on fire.

The 16 year old, who has a 13-page criminal history, was flown from Mackay Base Hospital to Brisbane where he remains under care.

A red Holden Colorado was stolen from a Rural View home overnight on August 28 from 11pm and found 12 hours later set on fire in West Mackay.

“We got a phone call at 11.20am (Sunday) that the vehicle was on fire,” a police media spokesman said.

The torched vehicle was at the intersection of Hume St and Cemetery Rd, the spokesman said.

Paramedics were called to a South Mackay home to treat a teen boy with burns.

He was taken to hospital with burns to his legs and hands “that reportedly occurred after using an accelerant on a fire”, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said.

The teen was in early July remanded in custody after his bail was rejected in Mackay Childrens Court.

The court, to which this publication was granted access, heard he had been linked to at least 19 stolen cars, armed robbery with a knife, multiple break and enters and a litany of drug and stealing crimes.

It was also revealed he had previously been seriously injured when a stolen car crashed, and he was later charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle over the incident.

He remains at the burns unit in Brisbane.

The police spokesman said no one had been charged in relation to this offence and police investigations were ongoing.
