Sefo Pau is charged over the crash that killed Scott Burrage

Scott Burrage died after his car was allegedly struck by a vehicle on Mackay Eungella Rd. Now a man is charged over the death.

Lawyers for the driver charged with causing the death of Scott Burrage have asked for more time in the face of the large police brief.

Police allege Sefo Pau was speeding while on a SPER suspended licence when he struck the Mirani father of three on Mackay Eungella Rd on March 20.

Mr Burrage died at the scene about after paramedics and police tried to save his life following the collision about 8pm.

Police believe Mr Burrage had been parked and checking his headlights in a driveway on the side of the road when he was allegedly struck by a vehicle.

Mr Pau, 34, is facing five charges – dangerous driving causing death while speeding, driving without a licence SPER suspended and driving an unregistered uninsured vehicle that was not fitted with a prescribed interlock.

The case was mentioned before Magistrate Bronwyn Hartigan on Wednesday afternoon when Legal Aid Queensland solicitor Erin Beer requested matters be adjourned for a further two weeks.

Ms Beer said it was “a large brief to review” and there were a “number of exhibits to watch”.

Mr Pau did not have to appear in court for the mention – he remains on bail.

The maximum penalty for the most serious charge – aggravated dangerous driving – is 14 years jail.

Matters will be mentioned again in November and Mr Pau’s appearance will again be excused.
