Scott Jasperse pleads guilty in Mackay Magistrates Court to drug possession

A Mackay father previously found guilty of possessing $110,000 likely to be linked to drug offending was found with more cash and drugs on a Grasstree Beach property.

A Mackay father who says he is appealing the decision that found him guilty of possessing $110,000 likely to be linked to drug offending has appeared in court after another raid on his Grasstree Beach property.

The court heard Scott Jasperse was on a suspended sentence when police raided his property on November 3, 2021, finding a cocktail of illegal substances and other items.

Police found 42 grams of marijuana, quetiapine, valium tablets, an extendable baton, a bong and scales at the 40-year-old man’s house.

The search also uncovered $6750 which police alleged to be tainted property.

Jasperse appeared via videolink in Mackay Magistrates Court on December 7, pleading guilty to two charges of possessing dangerous drugs, possessing a baton, possessing or acquiring restricted property, possessing property suspected of being used in the commission of a crime and possessing hazardous poisons or S4 medicines.

His lawyer Mark Williams told the court Jasperse was a qualified chef and an underground coal miner, but had struggled to find work since spending time in prison in 2017 and dealing with a drug addiction.

Mr Williams argued Jasperse’s offending was “somewhat minor” when considered in isolation.

Acting Magistrate Athol Kennedy sentenced Jasperse to 18 months probation and convictions were recorded.

His case will be sent back to the supreme court in 2022 for breaching his suspended sentence.
