Police have charged an 18-year-old Beaconsfield teen, accusing him of stealing multiple cars in a dramatic crime spree that ended with a burnt-out car and dead family pet.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said crews were called to Saint Lawrence on Thursday November 6 after a crash involving a stolen Toyota Kluger on the Bruce Hwy.

It is alleged the teen fled the Toyota Kluger before assaulting a 77-year-old man and stealing a nearby Toyota HiLux after someone had stopped to help.

Officers tracked the vehicle for a period of time before a tyre deflation device was successfully deployed on the Bruce Hwy at 12.25pm.

The spokeswoman said the vehicle continued for a short period before the driver abandoned the car and allegedly carjacked a nearby Nissan X-Trail that had stopped because of the traffic crash.

The Nissan was later found with fire damage at Mackay Yakapari Rd, Habana with the cat inside.

Family of the victim said the woman was forced out of her car and was shaken by the experience.

They said the family cat Sox was rushed to Andergrove Vets but tragically passed away.

Police found the teen at an Ooralea address about 5.20am on Friday November 7.

The teen was charged with one count each of assault, arson, animal cruelty, robbery and attempted robbery, two counts each of stealing a vehicle and dangerous operation of a vehicle, and three counts of stealing.

The teen remains in custody and is due to reappear before Mackay Magistrates Court on Monday November 10.
