A teen was rushed to hospital overnight after being bitten by a snake in Airlie Beach.

Ambulance crews attended a location off Shute Harbour Road at 10.44pm where they treated a boy in his mid teens after he reportedly suffered a snake bite to his lower leg.

He was taken to Proserpine Hospital in a stable condition.

It comes after a woman in her 30s was bitten on the leg in Mandalay last month.

A Mackay Hospital and Health Service spokesperson said at that time she was one of 42 people treated for snake bites across the region since July 1, with numbers only increasing as snake season began.
