Police are investigating an assault at a mining camp at Coppabella.

Police are investigating an assault within a mining camp inland from Mackay.

Initial reported indicated the incident happened about 2.20am at Coppabella, which is about 143km southwest of Mackay.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said it had occurred at an accommodation site on the Peak Downs Highway.

The QPS spokeswoman said a man reported he had been assaulted and was bleeding from the mouth, forehead and nose.

Investigations into the matter are continuing.
