A young Mirani driver has been slapped with an immediate six month suspension and eight-point demerit point hit after he was busted allegedly clocking more than 40kmh over the speed limit on a high use road network.

The 26 year old was stopped on the Peak Downs Highway at Nebo about 8am on August 17 over the alleged high speed incident.

Police allege officers were conducting mobile speed enforcement patrols when the speed of a Toyota HiLux dual cab was checked to be 144kmh in a 100kmh zone.

The vehicle was stopped and the young driver was spoken to in relation to the incident.

It is further alleged the driver was required to have an interlock device fitted to the vehicle and one was not fitted at the time.

As a result the driver was handed a $1854 fine that included an eight demerit point loss and six month driver’s licence suspension.

He must also appear in Mackay Magistrates Court today for the alleged offence of driving a vehicle without an interlock device fitted when required to do so.
