A horror crash that tragically caused the death of a pregnant woman and her mother has claimed another life.
A passenger in the other vehicle involved in the terrible smash at Mount Marlow has also succumbed to his injuries.
The 28-year-old Gold Coast man had been travelling in a Toyota LandCruiser when it and a Nissan Navara collided while driving on Shute Harbour Rd about 1pm August 11.
As a result five-months pregnant Mary Joy Estrada De La Cruz, 35, and her 60-year-old mother Marvic Estrada, who had been travelling in the Nissan, lost their lives.
They had been headed towards Cannonvale when the collision occurred.
Four people were travelling in the Toyota, which was headed in the opposite direction, and all were taken to hospital with injuries, including the 28-year-old man from Mermaid Beach.
Police confirmed he had been flown to Townsville University Hospital, but sadly he died on Friday afternoon.
This crash brings the total number of traffic fatalities in the Mackay Whitsunday district to 15 for 2024 as police urge drivers to take care.
Mary had been a sitting in the front passenger seat, while Marvic had been in the back seat with her husband – it is understood the older couple had been visiting from the Philippines.
Mary’s husband Edgar De La Cruz Jr had been driving and suffered serious injuries in the crash.
The four had been travelling from Proserpine, where Mary and Edgar lived, to Cannonvale.
Police have alleged the Nissan had crossed onto the other side of the road when the collision occurred.
Edgar De La Cruz Jr also suffered critical injuries and was flown to Townsville in a critical condition.
