A young Mackay man was allegedly caught with drugs, multiple stolen weapons and $84,000 in cash after police searched a ute on the city fringe.
Dieter Dean Stephens has been remanded in custody on 14 charges, stemming from a police bust about 11.30am on July 20 on Shakespeare St.
Mackay Tactical Crime Squad officers and pulled in behind a white Holden Cruze and a search of the vehicle allegedly unearthed seven firearms, two crossbows, $84,000 in cash, as well as a quantity of meth, MDMA and marijuana.
Senior Sergeant Chris Eaton said it would be alleged all firearms were stolen during two separate house break ins within the region.
Police alleged one of the firearms has been traced back to a break and enter at a Sarina home between June 20 and 22, the Mackay Criminal Investigation Branch officer in charge said.
It is further alleged the remaining six firearms had been linked to a break and enter at a South Mackay home on July 17 and “a gun safe containing firearms was forcibly removed”.
Mr Stephens is facing multiple charges including break and enter, unlawful possession of weapons, possessing meth, marijuana and MDMA, and possessing tainted cash.
The 26 year old appeared in Mackay Magistrates Court on Friday, July 21 and he was remanded in custody.
There was no bail application and the matter will be mentioned against on August 16.
Senior Sergeant Eaton said 30 minutes before this arrest Mackay Tactical Crime Squad officers had attempted to intercept a vehicle on the Bruce Hwy at Ogmore.
He said it was alleged the vehicle, which was stolen, attempted to avoid the interception by reversing and ramming a police car but failed.
It was alleged following a search of that vehicle police seized drugs and tainted property.
Senior Sergeant Eaton said it would be alleged the vehicle had been used in the South Mackay break and enter on July 17.
A 34-year-old Meikleville Hill man was charged 11 offences including dangerous driving, unlawful use of motor vehicle, possessing MDMA, obstructing police, failing to stop, and two counts each of possessing stolen registration plates, possessing tainted property and possessing S4 medication.
He was remanded in custody and the matter was adjourned to a later date.
