Mackay teen charged over violent armed robbery against doctor

A teen boy has been arrested over the alleged violent armed robbery against a doctor. Read what happened.

Detectives have arrested a Mackay teen following an alleged violent armed robbery against a Slade Point doctor.

Police alleged the 17-year-old boy attacked the victim with a lump of wood before ransacking his vehicle.

The incident occurred about 6.50pm at the Slade Point Medical on Finch St.

Mackay Criminal Investigation Branch officer in charge Chris Eaton said a 56-year-old man had been packing up the surgery to leave for the night.

“As he did… he was (allegedly) assaulted by an offender and struck with a lump of wood,” the Detective Senior Sergeant said.

The doctor received minor injuries to his back and face.

“The offender has ransacked his car and stolen property,” Senior Sergeant Eaton said police were alleging.

It is further alleged the attacker fled the scene, but detectives arrested him some hours later at a Slade Point address.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with one count of armed robbery and will appear in Mackay Childrens Court this morning.
