A Mackay man accused of accessing and possessing child abuse material could face up to 25 years jail if convicted.
It is alleged the offending occurred on June 30, 2021 in Mackay.
The 45 year old is facing five charges including four counts of possessing child exploitation material and one count of using a carriage service to access child abuse material.
His case was briefly mentioned in Mackay Magistrates Court on Tuesday for the first time where the brief of evidence was ordered.
The maximum penalty for possessing child exploitation material is 20 to 25 years jail depending on whether it was done using a hidden network or anonymising service.
The maximum penalty for using a carriage service to access child abuse material is 15 years.
The man has not been named at this stage because it is unknown if identifying him will identify any alleged victims.
The charges will need to be finalised in the district court.
The case has been adjourned to a date in September.
