A Queensland man was excused from facing court, where he is charged with a series of offences involving child abuse material.

Luke Robert William Taylor was on bail and represented by McKays Solicitors’ Robert Beamish, who said he was still awaiting materials from police prosecution.

Mackay Magistrates Court heard on Monday that Mr Beamish would likely be making an application for disclosure, noting that receiving three of the four items requested had “taken a very long time”.

He noted some of the materials he did possess – including an evidence report related to a search warrant – was “very heavily redacted”.

Mr Taylor is charged with two counts of possessing child exploitation material, 16 counts of distributing child exploitation material on a hidden network or anonymising service, and contravening an order about information stored electronically.

Magistrate Bronwyn Hartigan said she expected Mr Taylor’s sentence to take about an hour once the defence had settled any issues with the agreed evidence.

Mr Taylor’s bail was enlarged and his matters were adjourned to August 8.
