A Moranbah man accused of attacking a GP who allegedly refused to give him a Covid vaccination exemption has been attending anger management sessions.

Police charged Leon John Vesper with assault occasioning bodily harm in a public place while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and being a public nuisance after an incident at Sonic HealthPlus Moranbah in late 2021.

Officers were called to the St Francis Dr medical facility about 2.25pm on November 19 following reports of an assault.

Police allege 48-year-old Mr Vesper was at the clinic and became involved in a verbal altercation with a 39-year-old GP in relation to a Covid vaccination exemption.

Police then allege Mr Vesper punched the GP twice and pushed him to the ground.

During Mr Vesper’s second appearance at Moranbah Magistrates Court on Thursday, solicitor Sean Gibbs said his client was in the middle of completing a 10-week anger management course.

The Fisher Dore Lawyers solicitor said his client’s case was expected to take a certain course but asked for it to be adjourned until after he completed the program.

Magistrate Rosemary Gilbert said he took note of the fact Mr Vesper was completing an anger management course and matters were adjourned to March.
