Fire lit at Pompey St children’s playground in South Mackay

A slide has been damaged and police are investigating after reports a fire was deliberately lit at a children’s park in South Mackay.

Police are investigating after reports a number of youths lit a fire at a children’s park in South Mackay.

The incident occurred about 11am Sunday.

Police and fire crews were called to a children’s playground at the Pompey St Reserve following reports a fire had been deliberately lit and flames had spread to the slide.

As a result the slide caught fire.

It is understood a small pile of grass clippings had been set on fire, but extinguished before fire crews arrived.

A police spokeswoman said there was some damage to the slide.

Investigations continue.
