A motorbike crash was enough to slow down a speeding motorist but it gave police officers a chance to catch up to the driver.
Police were conducting patrols of Mulherin Dr, Mackay Harbour on February 17, 2022.
The officer recorded a 19-year-old Erakala man travelling 92km/h in a 50km/h speed zone at 7.27pm.
Police followed the vehicle, and were able to catch up with the Mitsubishi Triton after it was caught in traffic on Ron Searl Dr.
Paramedics were attending to the scene where there was a motorbike crash.
The rider was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition, but the driver of the Triton left the scene with a $1286 fine.
He also lost eight demerit points and his licence was suspended for six months.
Sergeant Nigel Dalton said it was a dangerous area to drive at such extreme speeds.
“In a semi-residential area with lots of other motorists and pedestrians in the mix as well, this particular incident could have ended very differently,” he said.
“Police officers will be doing all that is possible to ensure drivers comply with speed limits as road safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
