A woman has been ordered to make reparations to a Townsville apartment block after she hurled a vase at her boyfriend on the eve before Valentine’s Day.

Claudia Lorina Jeffries was staying at Metro Quays Townsville City Apartments on February 13 this year when a verbal argument broke out between her and her now ex-partner, and she threw a vase at him.

Mackay Magistrates Court on Thursday heard Jeffries was on a suspended sentence at the time for possession of drugs.

She had earlier been caught with 4.2g of marijuana and four quetiapine tablets on April 13, 2022, and with pills of oxycodone, diazepam and alprazolam (Xanax) on October 4, 2022.

The court heard Jeffries had been attending counselling to deal with trauma fuelling her drug use.

Magistrate Bronwyn Hartigan said it was clear Jeffries’ traumatic past had been “compounded” by a severe traffic accident that left another driver a quadriplegic and Jeffries herself with serious injuries.

“You have written a letter about how remorseful you are for your conduct,” Ms Hartigan said.

“It is in the community’s best interest, and your best interest, that you rehabilitate yourself.”

Jeffries pleaded guilty to wilful damage, two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, and two counts of possessing restricted medicines.

She was ordered to pay $100 compensation to Metro Quays, and sentenced to a probation order.

It requires her to attend counselling and submit to drug tests.

Convictions were recorded.
