Bruce Highway crash: Head-on collision blocks road north of Proserpine
Two vehicles crashed head-on in the Whitsundays, blocking both lanes of the Bruce Highway. A car was left on its roof after a crash in Mackay at the same time.

Police were on scene minutes after a head-on traffic crash that blocked both lanes of the Bruce Highway in the Whitsundays on Monday afternoon.
About the same time a vehicle was on its roof in front of a West Mackay home following a two-car crash on the first day of Road Safety Week.
The two-vehicle crash in the Whitsundays occurred near the entrance to the Gunna Go Caravan Park at 3.24pm, leaving one person trapped while bystanders pulled another person from the wreckage breathing and conscious.
Both cars remained on the highway as police diverted traffic along Gregory Cannonvale Road up to Shute Harbour Road.
It is understood there were reports of an injury, but there was no confirmed word on the drivers’ conditions.
There was fuel over the road and both cars were expected to need towing from the site of the crash.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said at the time a man in his 40s was being extricated from his vehicle and was in a serious condition but his injuries were unknown yet.
She said a woman in her 40s in the other vehicle was in a stable condition.
A rescue helicopter had been tasked, while firefighters were also on the scene.
Emergency services were also attending a crash in West Mackay at the corner of Donaldson St and MacKenzie St.
A car was on its roof after a collision about 3.45pm.
As a result one patients was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition.
