21 people issued notices or arrests over New Year celebrations in Mackay, Whitsunday

Police across the Mackay and Whitsunday regions were kept busy during the festive New Year celebrations, with more than 20 people charged. Find out what they did here.

Mackay and Whitsunday police officers were kept busy over the New Year’s Eve celebrations, with more than 20 offences laid.

Police issued 21 people with 23 charges including infringement notices, notices to appear and arrests for public nuisance, move on and traffic offences.

Most incidents were minor, and related to anti-social behaviour and were predominantly alcohol related.

Eight people across Mackay and Whitsunday were intercepted drink-driving.

Despite a number of arrests made across the Mackay and Whitsunday regions, Mackay District acting inspector Damian Wells said local communities were “generally well behaved”.

Seven people were charged with seven offences in Mackay, while 14 people were charged with 16 offences in the Whitsunday district.
