From break and enters, dangerous driving and car theft, already Mackay police officers have been kept busy in 2022. Here are some of the people they are still searching for.

Mt Pleasant shop stealing leads to car park incident

Mackay police have been busy attending a number of serious crimes, such as armed robberies, dangerous driving as well as break and enters.

Police are appealing for information from the public to help solve these crimes.

22. Alleged appeal for witness to alleged assault

Mackay police are investigating an alleged assault of a young girl in Mackay city.

Police believe it occurred about 11.20am on Saturday January 22 on Mangrove Rd shopping centre.

21. Alleged assault in Airlie Beach

A man lost consciousness and was taken to hospital with serious facial injuries after he was assaulted in Airlie Beach.

It is understood the man walked out of a licensed venue on Shute Harbour Rd, Airlie Beach and while checking his phone he was targeted in an unprovoked assault.

Police believe the assault happened about 1am on Saturday February 19, and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have information to contact police.

20. Alleged stolen children’s motorcycle in Moranbah

A children’s motorcycle was stolen from a shed at a home in Moranbah.

A blue Yamaha PW50 off-road motorcycle was stolen from a home on Shannon Dr.

Police believe the motorcycle was stolen about 10.40am on Saturday March 5.

The roller door to the shed has been damaged and police said it appeared to be the point of entry.

Anyone who has information about either the current location of the stolen motorcycle or the offence itself is encouraged to contact Policelink as soon as possible.

19. Alleged home break in Moranbah

An Acer laptop and 24 carat gold bead bracelets with jade stones were stolen from a Moranbah unit in a break and enter.

It is understood the break and enter was through the main door about 12.04am on Thursday March 3.

The unit on Acacia St was briefly unoccupied at the time.

Anyone who might have information about the location of the stolen items or the offence itself is encouraged to contact police as soon as possible.

Police are encouraging residents to secure homes when they are unattended, even if only for minutes.

18. Alleged Beaconsfield two attempt break and enter

An unknown person tried to break in through a Beaconsfield home’s screen doors twice in three days.

They attempted to force their way in a home on Oysterlee St in Beaconsfield, between February 26 and February 28.

Police believe they tried to force two separate screen doors off their tracks between the hours of 7am and 3pm.

Nothing was damaged or stolen from the home.

17. Alleged stolen vehicle from Nebo Road found

A stolen vehicle from a driveway on Nebo Rd was found undamaged after five days.

A 2006 Toyota HiLux dual cab was stolen from a driveway on Anne St between 10pm on February 24 and 5.30am on February 25.

The car was found on Holts Rd, Glenella about 12.15pm on February 28.

Mackay police encourage people to come forward if they have any information about the stolen vehicle.

16. Armed person steals vehicle in Slade Point

Investigations are continuing after a car stolen outside a Slade Point business when a woman fled to safety was found.

A woman fled her car into the safety of a nearby business as an armed offender chased her with a wooden baton.

The Holden Crewman was found on Monday on Anvil St, Slade Point, with substantial damage to the passenger window.

The ordeal police described as a violent vehicle theft started when the female driver of the Holden Crewman gave way at the Bedford Rd and Celeber Dr roundabout in Andergrove.

Another vehicle, a Holden Calais, ran up the back of her ute about 11.30am and the two cars pulled over after the crash.

It was then a balaclava-clad person approached the woman’s car and used a wooden baton to smash the front passenger-side window of her car.

The woman quickly drove away, fleeing more than 8km towards Slade Point and was followed closely by the other vehicle.

The person, wearing a camouflage hoodie and with heavily tattooed, muscular legs, ran to the Holden Calais and got in the driver’s seat.

The business CCTV recorded the moment as the woman sought help inside.

The person is heavily tattooed from the thighs to ankles, and was carrying a wooden baton about 30 centimetres in length as he stole the car.

Police will conduct a forensic examination of the Holden Crewman.

Police have pleaded to anyone in the Mackay community to contact them with any information about the incident.

15. Proserpine theft allegation

A Proserpine man was charged for stealing electrical cabling from a business in Proserpine and for suspected stealing of boltcutters.

It is alleged the 34-year-old man stole 1.5 inch electrical cabling from a boundary fence of a business on Mill Street.

It is believed the man used boltcutters to cut out of the cable and load it in his vehicle about 7.30am on March 1.

The man was arrested and charged with stealing and unlawful possession of suspected stolen property.

He will appear in Proserpine Magistrates Court on March.

14. Koumala business break-in

An acoustic guitar and charity money has been stolen from a Koumala business in a break and enter.

An unknown person stole an acoustic guitar named Annemarie on the fretboard, and two charity money collection boxes from a business on Brown St.

It is understood they forced their way in through a locked sliding window about 12.17am on February 27.

Police have appealed for information on the stolen items or the break in to come forward.

15. Bowen business break-in

Two unknown people stole specialised equipment from a Bowen office in a break and enter.

A black lycra optical device, a white coloured Ricoh printer and a Dell laptop were stolen from a temporary office at the intersection of Miowera Rd and the Bruce Highway at Bowen.

It is understood they gained entry through the main door about 11am on February 26.

Police have appealed for information on the location of the stolen items or the offence itself.

13. impounding after alleged hooning incident in North Mackay

A 26-year-old man has lost demerit points, been fined and his vehicle was impounded after he performed a burnout in North Mackay.

Mackay police saw the Andergrove man performing a burn out as he travelled through a roundabout towards Bedford Road intersection, on February 24 about 4.12pm.

Police stopped the Commodore on Somerset Drive in Andergrove and the man was fined $441 on the spot for making unnecessary noise and smoke from his vehicle.

He also lost two demerit points and his vehicle was seized for 90 days.

12. Mount Pleasant shop stealing allegedly leads to car park crash

Mackay police are searching for a man and woman who’s vacuum stealing mission almost resulted in a car crash disaster.

A man attempted to gain entry through the back door of a business on Heaths Rd, Mount Pleasant on Tuesday February 1 about 11.23am.

The man walked to the front of the business where he picked up a Tineco Pure One S12 vacuum cleaner and then left the store without paying.

The man quickly walked from the store to a white Mitsubishi Outlander that was parked close by and hopped into the front passenger seat, where an unknown woman was waiting in the driver's seat.

A female customer had followed the man out of the store and stood in front of the vehicle preventing it from leaving.

The driver accelerated, causing the customer to jump out of the way to avoid being seriously injured.

The car made light contact with her left leg as it left the car park and drove away from the area.

Police have released footage of a car park incident and ask for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have dashcam footage to phone police on 131 444.

11. Attempted theft of truck and trailer in Clermont

Police are encouraging people to secure their vehicles after a truck and trailer was nearly stolen on private property.

It is understood someone attempted to steal a truck and a large water tanker on a rural property at Gregory Development Road in Clermont between Tuesday February 8, 5pm and Wednesday February 9, 5pm.

An unknown person tried to disconnect the trailer from the truck which contained about 36,000 litres of water.

The person also tried to drive away in the truck after finding the keys in the cab.

Clermont police said these attempts were not successful and nothing was stolen or damaged.

Police are urging people to review their vehicle security options and report any suspicious activity.

10. Driver caught allegedly caught speeding twice within minutes

A 18-year-old Cannonvale woman lost three demerit points after being caught speeding twice within a few minutes.

Mackay’s Highway Patrol Unit officers were conducting speed enforcement patrols on the Bruce Highway, Mount Ossa at 4.53pm on February 9.

It is alleged police stopped a Toyota Camry sedan after the car’s speed was recorded at 154km/h in a 100km/h speed zone.

After the highway patrol officer explained the fine and relevant demerit points that would follow, the officer left the scene and performed a U-turn a short distance away.

As the police were travelling back, the same Camry driver drove past with their speed reading 113km/h in the very same 100km/h speed zone.

Police stopped the car a second time and issued further fines to the driver for the second speeding incident.

Within minutes, the driver accumulated $1781 in fines and lost 13 demerit points for both matters.

Mackay Highway Patrol Unit Officer in Charge Shane Edwards said it was concerning to see two incidents of speeding happen so quickly under these circumstances.

“When you are speeding, your ability to react safely to unexpected situations, like a change in the road surface, dangerous behaviour from other road users or even a mechanical issue in your vehicle – becomes compromised,” Senior Sergeant Edwards said.

“Being stopped by police and being the subject of enforcement action is not the worst outcome if I’m being honest.

“Speeding has a direct consequence of your life and those around you.”

9. Slade Point alleged violence threat

A 30-year-old man has been charged after threatening two other people with a knife in Slade Point.

Two people were speaking on a footpath near a parked car on South Pacific Ave in Slade Point when it is alleged the 30-year-old man and another person approached them about 11.45pm on Friday February 11.

The man asked the two people standing near the vehicle for a lift to a nearby beach.
It is alleged that when this was refused, he responded by removing a knife from the waistband of his pants and threatening them.

Both the 30-year-old man and his companion then left the area on foot.

Nobody was physically injured in the incident.

Police found the man on Cumberland Ave a short time later.

He was arrested and was charged with threatening violence while in possession of a knife.

He will appear in Mackay Magistrates Court on March 15.

8. Mackay city bag snatch

Mackay police are searching for a man who stole a handbag while riding a bike.

The unknown man was riding past a person sitting on a table and snatched a handbag from the victim’s table outside an eatery on Wood St about 12.01pm on February 14.

The handbag contained a variety of identity cards, a purse and glasses.

Mackay police encourage people to come forward if they have any information about the man.

7. Mackay theft from vessel

A number of items were stolen from a sailing boat moored on the Pioneer River near Mackay city.

Mackay police encourage people to come forward if they have any information about the number of stolen items from a sailing boat between 2pm on Sunday February 13 and 10.30am on Monday February 14.

6. Macky car theft

A break and enter in a Mackay business has resulted in a car being stolen.

It is alleged thieves entered an unattended warehouse of a business on Victoria Street, Mackay on Tuesday February 15 at 11.04am.

5. Sarina break and enter

Antique items including tobacco tins were stolen from a Sarina business in a break and enter.

Police are calling for witnesses to the business break-in between Monday, January 24 and Wednesday January 26 on Central St, Sarina.

Police believe the intruder broke in through an upstairs window and took antique items including several tobacco tins.

Police have appealed for information on the tobacco tins or the break-in to come forward.

4. Dysart disturbance

A Dysart business worker was assaulted after a number of people engaged in a fight.

Dysart police are investigating a number of alleged offences as a result of a large disturbance on a licensed property on Queen Elizabeth Drive, Dysart.

Police believed it occurred about 10.30pm on Tuesday 25, 2022.

It was reported that a number of people became involved in a fight inside the business as well as on the front lawn where a female patron was assaulted.

Dysart police advise anyone who witnessed the incident to phone police.

3. Alleged Mackay speeding, red light and drink driving

A Sarina woman has been caught driving 18km/h over the speed limit.

Mackay police observed a 28-year-old woman driving a car at 78km/h in a 60km/h area of Mackay Bucasia Road about 7.25pm on Saturday January 29.

The police further allege the vehicle failed to stop at the red lights at the junction of Sologinkin Road.

The woman was issued with a notice to appear at Mackay Magistrates Court on March 28.

Police are again warning all motorists that drinking, drugs and driving do not mix.

Mackay police said they lost more lives this year than the same time last year.

2. Alleged West Mackay attempted armed robbery

A man has broken into a Mackay business and threatened a cashier with a knife, demanding money and cigarettes.

The break and enter occurred on Bridge Road, West Mackay about 2.45am on Sunday January 30.

The unknown man entered the business and approached the cashier and produced a flick knife from his pocket and demanded money and cigarettes.

The demands were refused and the man left the store on foot with nothing.

The man is described as being about 175cm tall with a dark complexion.

1. Alleged Mackay dangerous driving

Police have charged a 19-year-old man after he was allegedly spotted driving at speeds of more than 130km/h in a 100km/h zone before crashing into a light pole.

The teenage Farleigh resident was allegedly driving on Mackay Ring Rd at 11.50pm on January 29, when police recorded his Holden Commodore 33km/h above the speed limit

A short time later, officers found the same car had crashed. The driver was the only person in the car and was uninjured.

While police were helping the driver of the car, another six vehicles arrived at the scene, with officers directing the drivers to stop their cars.

After inspecting the cars, police issued the drivers with 14 different traffic infringement notices for defects.

The driver of the Holden Commodore was charged with dangerous driving and will face Mackay Magistrates Court on March 30.

Sergeant Nigel Dalton said ongoing operations and multiple warnings to local hoons seemed “to have fallen on deaf ears”.

“Police will continue to target inconsiderate and dangerous driving behaviours in the Mackay District,” he said.
