Police requested assistance from the Special Emergency Service and the public after a 73-year-old woman was reported missing.

East Mackay resident, Maryann Peters, was last seen on Harvison St at approximately 11.30am and her family, concerned for her welfare, contacted emergency services.

Police vehicles crowded the south end of Harvison St just after 1.30pm as they began their search.

Officers riding motorcycles could be seen searching nearby roads and police vehicles were parked on adjoining streets as officers went door-to-door.

A Special Emergency Service vehicle arrived on the scene after 2pm.

Police units were called to stand down at 2:30 after Mrs Peters was found “safe” and “well” a QPS spokesman confirmed.

Mrs Peters has a medical condition that is thought to be the reason for her disappearance, as it can cause confusion and disorientation.

Queensland Police asked residents of East Mackay to check their backyards, “in case she has wandered onto a nearby property”.
