Music legend Pete Murray is back with new music, re-recordings of some of his biggest hits, and a huge Australian tour.

The popular singer is stopping by Mackay in June for an intimate show where fans will get an exclusive look at his new acoustic album.

“I’ve always said that it’s very hard to have success in the music business, but it’s even harder to have a career,” he said.

“But if you can get out and get the support of regional Australia, then you’ve got a career in this country.”

The tour is Mr Murray’s biggest ever and his first solo acoustic tour in Australia which was creating a lot of excitement, he said.

Mr Murray said he would be playing the music as it was written, taking it back to its raw state at the intimate shows.

“There’s some stories about some of the songs as well, how they’re written, things that have happened to me,” he added.

He has also spilled there was a special new acoustic album that, for now, was being sold exclusively in physical format on tour.

“That’s another exciting thing for fans, to buy that, knowing that they’re the only people in the country that have those, have that album,” he said.

The tour would also provide Mr Murray with the perfect chance to show fans what he has been working on, like his new single, I Am Fire, inspired by people who stood up and became heroes.

“It’s been hard not to see what’s been happening with all the wars overseas,” he said.

“And I was just looking at footage and people that have gone in to help others, who’ve stood up against regimes, who’ve stood up for humanity.

“For me, they’re the heroes of the world and they’re the brave ones.”

The single will form part of a new album being released in October.

He is also “pulling a Swiftie” by re-recording some of his biggest hits so he can own his own masters.

“Better Days is coming out first, it just sort of felt like the timing was right, it’s 20 years ago that it was released,” he said.

“I’ve got most of Feeler re-recorded and I think that’s a big one, to put out my version of that and my interpretation of that.

“The songs are a little different and people will pick up on that too.

“I’ve kind of based these new versions on how we play the songs live so it’s a little bit more energy in those songs, a little bit more going on.”

He said people were very supportive of Taylor Swift and other artists that were standing up saying, I’ve spent the money and I’ve re-recorded my songs so that I own the masters, and he hoped the response would be similar for his re-records.

The stacked tour would run for around four months and Mr Murray said it was really exciting to get out there and do something that was a bit different, although there were some nerves about how tiring the mammoth tour may be.

He said touring is so busy he often didn’t get to see much of each location he visited but whenever he had a little bit of time he liked to take the chance to explore different places.

“Normally, you just get in with enough time to do a soundcheck, go and have dinner, come back and do the show, then you go to bed and you get up the next day and it’s the same thing again,” he said.

Tickets for the tour are on sale now at www.petemurray.com and his new album will be out in October.
