A kitchen fire that spun out of control claimed the life of a Sarina woman and robbed a clan of adoptive family of their matriarch.
Patricia Sinapius — also known as Patricia Pasche — was 71-years-old when a fire started by an unattended stove quickly engulfed her home.
Despite efforts from her 25-year-old grandson to save her, she died in her bedroom.
A close friend of the family, speaking on behalf of Ms Sinapius’ son Kevin Sinapius, also known as Crow, said Patricia was the head of a broad clan of blood relatives and found family members.
“She was amazing, no matter who you were, she didn’t give a damn about your skin colour, what your background was, she was there for you,” she said.
Calling herself one of Patricia’s “foster daughters”, she said “that’s the main thing we’re gonna miss because that’s our matriarch, our mum, and she’s gone.”
She opened up about her mother’s difficulties after suffering a stroke that nearly took her life a couple of years earlier.
“She’s always come out the other side and that’s our inspiration, that she’s always soldiered on,” she said.
Patricia’s others sons, daughters, and grandchildren are deeply mourning her loss.
A GoFundMe has been set up by Kevin to raise much needed funds for the damaged house and belongings lost in the fire.
“My mum was known around the town by very few people, but had time for everyone that knew her and loved her,” he wrote.
