Overnight drenching soaks Mackay, Whitsundays as roads closed

Eight roads across the Mackay Whitsundays have been closed as the region is buffeted by rain.

Three Mackay roads flooded overnight and remain closed to traffic this morning following an overnight drenching.

The Bureau of Meteorology recorded rainfall totals of more than 90mm in the Mackay region in the 24 hours since 9am Sunday.

That included 62mm recorded at the North Mackay Gooseponds, and 80mm in Andergrove.

In the Whitsundays Proserpine received 42mm of rain, and the small town of Preston was hit with 102mm.

Rain is expected until Wednesday.

  • Glenella Hicks Rd – flooded
  • Golf Links Rd – flooded
  • Homebush Palm Tree Rd – flooded
  • Holts Rd – reported flooded by Queensland Police

Whitsundays

  • Mount Wyatt Burdekin Falls Dam Rd – flooded
  • Bowen Russells Crossing – flooded
  • Bowen Reeves Rd – flooded
  • Strathmore Rd – flooded
