A male driver has been treated for significant smoke inhalation after a ute caught fire on the northside of Mackay triggering an emergency response.

One person has been treated for significant smoke inhalation after a ute caught fire in North Mackay.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said a crew was called to the scene at Valley and Hicks streets about 12.20pm.
She said firefighters had extinguished the blaze by 12.30pm.
The smell of burnt plastic permeated the air as fire retardant seeped out of the Holden single-cab ute which had a smashed back glass window and front windshield.
Paramedics also attended the scene where they tended to the male driver.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said he suffered significant smoke inhalation.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said there were no suspicious circumstances.
